Coast Guard rescues 2 near Ocean City, Md.

October 21, 2016

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard rescued two boaters Thursday from pontoon boat that ran aground in Isle of Wight Bay near Ocean City, Maryland.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a report from a good Samaritan on shore stating he saw a boat aground in Isle of Wight Bay.

Sector MNCR issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft – Shallow Water boat crew from Coast Guard Station Ocean City to respond.

Once on scene, the Coast Guard boat crew removed the two boaters from the grounded vessel and transferred them to South Pines Marina.

"We appreciate the efforts of the good Samaritan calling the Coast Guard to describe what they thought could be a vessel in distress," said Lt. Cmdr. Sara Wallace, chief of response at Sector MNCR. "Due to the good Samaritan's diligence, we were able to provide assistance to the two boaters quickly and effectively. This case illustrates how valuable good Samaritans are to the boating public and the Coast Guard."

No injuries were reported.
